John Wood the Elder’s drawing instruments

In 2016 the Bath Preservation Trust was able to purchase at auction the drawing instruments owned by John Wood the Elder. They paid £21,000 for the set that was made around 1745 by the leading architectural instrument maker Thomas Heath of London.

The set is housed in a silver and fish skin case which has his familiar coat of arms. Inside the case comprises a silver scale ruler, an ivory sector ruler with silver mounts, compass, dividers, bow, two pens and a pencil.

The set is on display at the Museum of Bath Architecture.
